Harmony Shaunice
Recreational Gymnastics Director, Xcel Team Coach, and Recreational Instructor

Harmony started coaching at VEGA in November of 2010, and is now the recreational gymnastics director, recreational coach and an XCEL team coach. Harmony went to high school in Eagle, Idaho and graduated from the Art Institute of Portland in 2009 with a degree in Web Design and Interactive Media ( she creates all of the digital imaging and marketing materials for VEGA). Coach Harmony has a long history with gymnastics, training at Gem State Gymnastics Academy under Jim Tighe from the ages of 8-18, 4-5 days a week. She explains that gymnastics was her life and 2nd home; if she wasn't training, she was working for her tuition. Her accomplishments include making it to Regionals as a level 8. Harmony started coaching at Rose City Gymnastics Academy in Portland, Oregon before finding her home at VEGA.

Some fun facts about Coach Harmony is that she plays the didgeridoo, loves sleeping in her hammock, has a solid handstand, and loves her mama. She is a hugger, a teacher, and enjoys summer festivals and camping. She likes working with her hands and building things; she is a firm believer in reuse, recycle, compost and upcycle. Last, but not least, she loves a good home crafted beer. As a gymnast, her favorite events were Floor and Beam but as a coach, she loves coaching Vault and Bars. When asked about her favorite aspect of coaching gymnastics, she responded, "I love seeing my kids' eyes light up when they are challenged and succeeding. It's so fun watching them get excited about a personal goal. Also watching a kid learn a cartwheel for the first time is priceless, there's nothing like it!!"

"Lead by example not by exception." As told to me by Zdravko
