Practice

It is important for dancers to practice routines and new combinations outside of class. Dancers are asked to come back each week having correctly memorized all that has been taught the week before and then maintain and improve from week to week. Practice may be given, especially during the recital season, requesting dancers to practice several times per week.

Participating in the posted viewing times will help you, the parent, with home practice.

The class instructor may have notes of choreography or videos for the dancer to practice at home with.

Class Placement

Class sizes 6–16 students, depending on the class. There must be a minimum of three students participating for recreational dance class to run.
Our first consideration for placement in our classes age.

Some students may moved into a higher class if determined by the instructor regardless of age or experience. Student attitude, effort, home practice, self – discipline and attendance are also strong factors in class placement.

If at anytime you have questions about class placement for your student, please feel free to schedule a time to discuss your child’s progress with his or her instructor.

American Ballet Theatre National Training Curriculum classes require evaluation for placement.

Dance Studio Policy

Food and beverages (other than water) are not allowed in the studios. This applies to both dancers and observers. Gum is prohibited.

Dancers should be at the studio, dressed and ready to go with shoes on and appropriate hair 5 minutes before class begins.

Due to the specific progression of ballet classes, dancers arriving more than five minutes after class begins are not allowed to interrupt class.

Street shoes or black-soled shoes are not allowed on the dance floors.

Viewing Policy

Parent observation times vary, and you’ll receive correspondence from your dancer’s instructor regarding viewing for your class. This is to ensure the best possible environment for that instruction of all dance students.

ABT classes will have specific parent observation dates for each level.

Please keep in mind that the class is still in session at this time. Parents and siblings are welcome to observe dance class during these times, but are required to stay within designated viewing area boundaries.

Please refrain from speaking with the dancers, other parents, or instructors during observation times. If you need to speak with your child’s instructor, you are encouraged to set up a time outside of regular class hours.

Video recording routines requires instructor approval. Posting videos online is not permitted.

Once a class completed, students are to be picked up immediately. Dancers must remain in the facility until their ride has arrived. Parental supervision is required at all times for children who are not participating. Parents must keep their children with them at all times. Children may not run the halls unattended or linger to socialize. Siblings are not allowed in dance studios without an instructor present in the studio.
