Lyrical is often seen as a hybrid of both jazz and ballet. The movement is soft and fluid, with an emphasis on interpreting lyrics and portraying the emotions behind those lyrics.

There is an element of storytelling, and students are encouraged to lose their inhibitions and respond to the music. Lyrical dancers should have some ballet experience. Lyrical classes are recommended for students ages 10 and up.
